Problem Possible cause Solution
Noise when monitoring
a recording
Feedback is being caused.
Connecting a speaker with a built-in
amplifier may cause feedback during
recording. Using the earphones to monitor
recording is recommended.
Adjust the recording setup such as by
moving the earphones and microphone
farther apart, or ensuring the microphone
is not facing the earphones.
Unable to write index
marks/temp marks
The maximum number of marks
(99) has been reached.
Erase unneeded marks ( P.43).
The file is locked.
Unlock the file ( P.61).
The file is a read-only file.
Unlock the file, or undo the read-only
setting on a PC.
Unable to listen to FM
radio
WS-833 model only
The earphones are not connected
to the EAR jack.
The earphones provided also function as
an antenna. Connect the earphones when
listening to the radio.
[Earphone] has been selected for
[Output].
To output the sound through the built-in
speaker, select [Speaker] for [Output]
(P.81).
Unable to charge the
battery
WS-833 and WS-832 models only
[Alkaline] has been selected for
[Battery].
To use the rechargeable battery provided,
select [Ni-MH] for [Battery]. Do not use
the rechargeable battery at higher/lower
temperatures than the recommended
range ( P.10, P.15, P.77).
The `OK button was not pressed.
Press the `OK button as directed in
the confirmation screen shown when
connecting the USB connector.
[Composite] has been selected
for [USB Class].
Select [Storage Class] for [USB Class]
( P.89).
The PC is unable to
recognize the voice
recorder.
[AC Adapter] has been selected
for [USB Connection].
Select [PC] for [USB Connection]

Button operations are
